The Gallery was founded in May, 1995 at The «Pushkinskaya-10″ Art Centre by a group of experts which consisted of St Petersburg photographers and artists (D. Vilenskiy, I. Lebedev, D. Pilikin, A. Titarenko, A. Chezhin).

An exhibition programme is held by the Gallery; the processes which are going on in the contemporary art are explored, the history of the development of photography in St Petersburg is studied. Once a year an exhibition of new receipts is held. Small-circulation photo albums and illustrated programmes of the actions are issued. The Gallery’s collection (which has got the status of a collection of The «Free Culture» Society in the funds of The Museum of Nonconformist Art) increases with the works given to the Gallery as gifts by their authors. At the present time it is the only collection of contemporary photography in Russia which is open for broad audience. In June, 2000 a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the Gallery’s 5th anniversary took place in The Museum of Nonconformist Art (curators – A. Chezhin, I. Lebedev, D. Pilikin), a jubilee album was issued. Since 2000 the Gallery has been the main organizer of the annual city festival «The Autumn Photo Marathon».
