Deboshir Film Studio

Deboshir Film Studio was founded by the director and actor Alexander Bashirov in 1996.

For a long time the studio could not find a place of its own, changing hired offices all the time, and existed rather virtually. Since 2002 it exists at The «Pushkinskaya-10″ Art Centre.

«Deboshir Film Festival – Pure Dreams» – is a yearly cinema forum designed as a festival of contemporary young cinema; it’s been held since 1997. This is cinema that does not depend on the political, financial and state pressure upon the creative act of artistic reflection of nowadays; the cinema which exists in all the world – the cinema by young directors which are not oriented towards pleasing the undemanding mass culture which depersonalizes and levels the complicacy of the contemporary person.

A lot of short films acquaint the Russian spectators with the topics and plots that, for the reason of their commercial unprofitableness or for other reasons, are available to them neither through video tapes nor through TV.

Students’ works are of special importance to the Festival; those represent the activity of a number of cinema schools: The St Petersburg University of Cinema and Television, Deboshir Film Studio, The Tel Aviv University and The Israel Cinema School, programmes from Finland (VIVID Studio), cinema groups from Yekaterinburg (Yu-7 TV Studio).
